803 MENTAL ROTATIONS

In this program, the subject is asked to decide whether a letter on the screen is presented in normal or reversed orientation by mentally rotating the letter to its proper orientation. The demonstrations consists of at least 72 self-paced trials in which normal and reversed R's are presented equally often in each of 12 orientations. When the user has correctly identified each of the stimuli three times, the median reaction time for each stimulus is calculated. Subsequently, these times are displayed in graphs showing the median reaction times for each of the 12 normal R's and each of the 12 mirror-images. Each graph portrays the user's own data which may then be added to that of a comparison group.
